When people gain weight, belly fat is typically the first noticeable. Everyone hates belly fat. It spills out over the top of your pants, ruins your profile, makes the thought of wearing a bathingsuit absolutely dreadful. Many people believe they can target their belly fat for weight loss. Unfortunately, it is not true. You need to lose fat everywhere in order to lose your belly fat. As we age, life becomes more difficult and the stress in our lives don't help with belly fat. With stress comes an increase in cortisol, which is also known as the "stress hormone," which causes your body to store fat in your midsection. Belly fat is bad news for your health as well as your appearance. Excess fat that surrounds your organs can lead to type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Starting a rigorous routine of crunches and situps are not going to get rid of your belly fat. Even if you are successful in building muscle by increasing your core strength, the muscle is going to build below the layers of belly fat and you'll end up looking larger. You need to lose belly fat.
Start by evaluating your diet. If you are eating a lot of processed foods, cut them out. No more cookies, crackers, pasta. Focus on a diet that includes lean protein and lots of fresh produce (fruits and vegetables). This kind of diet will promote belly fat burning!
Once your diet is in check, start moving. It takes heart pumping cardiovascular exercise to burn fat. Figure out what you like doing (and what you're capable of doing). Roller blading, jogging, swimming, brisk walking, aerobics ... there are many options for cardiovascular exercise. It's going to take serious exercise to help you burn belly fat and body fat in general.
